GENESIS 12

Abram Journeys to Egypt – Genesis 12:1-20 NASB1995

“1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you;…(verse 20).”

GENESIS 26

Isaac Settles in Gerar – Genesis 26:1-35 NASB1995

“1 Now there was a famine in the land, besides the previous famine that had occurred in the days of Abraham. So Isaac went to Gerar, to Abimelech king of the Philistines. …(verse 35).”

The book of GENESIS is the first book of the Bible, and opens with one of the most famous first sentences of any literary work: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Fnd the famous histories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the ark, Abraham and Isaac, and a dreamer named Joseph.

The book of GENESIS reads like a saga of stories: semi-tragic events of a world that just keeps going wrong, despite its Creator’s intentions. But GENESIS isn’t a stand-alone book. It’s the first installment in the five-part Torah (or Pentateuch), which is the foundational work of the Old Testament. The Torah is Israel’s origin story: it’s the history of how the nation of Israel got its population, its land, and its religion.

The book of GENESIS is the first book of the Bible. It is divided into two main parts, with Chapters 1-11 telling the story of God and the whole world, and Chapters 12-50 focusing in on the story of God, a man, and his family.
